Dani Fusco-House (Lyttelton 16) writes, " I’m currently campaigning to qualify for the LA 2028 Olympic Games as part of a British 470 sailing team. I never imagined that my participation in Stowe’s rowing programme would one day lead me towards the Olympic Games.
Soon after Leaver’s Day 2016, I moved to the United States on a full sports scholarship and spent five years competing Internationally as a Division 1 rower whilst completing my undergraduate and Master’s degrees. Balancing 20hr plus training weeks alongside academic study demanded total commitment, resilience and belief – lessons that have shaped every step of my sporting journey since.
In 2023, after returning back to the UK, my career took an unexpected turn when I was selected for Crew4Gold, a British talent ID-transfer programme created to identify future Olympic Medalists. Through this programme, I transitioned into sailing at an extraordinary speed, moving from beginner boats into the Olympic 470 class in a matter of months.
Alongside Haydn Sewell, a lifelong sailor and established member of the British Sailing Team, we finished 21st at the 470 World Championships last year in our very first season together – the fastest progression of any team in the British Sailing system to date. The result confirmed what our coaches already believed: we had genuine Olympic potential.
Olympic sailing, however, is largely self-funded. Boats, sails, travel, training camps, and international competition costs fall directly on the athletes, and without the right equipment progress simply isn’t possible. To keep our Olympic dream alive and continue our push forwards towards LA 2028, we urgently need to purchase a new 470 race boat. As a result, we are seeking support through private donations or sponsorship, to allow us to continue our progression and remain competitive on the world stage.
Stowe played a formative role in shaping who I am, and to start and end my Olympic journey with the Stoic community behind me would mean everything.
