A Fantastic Day of Sport, Spirit, and Stowe Community
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Stowe on Sunday for our annual Old Stoic Sports Day. After an early bout of fog, the weather brightened beautifully, setting the stage for a lively and memorable day of competition. It was wonderful to welcome so many Old Stoics back to the School grounds to take part, cheer from the sidelines, and celebrate the enduring Stowe spirit.
Below is a roundup of this year’s results and highlights.
Football
Stowe 5 – Old Stoics 1
The opening fixture saw a strong Stowe side secure a 5–1 win in an energetic match. As tradition demands, the game was followed by the famous penalty shootout—this time claimed by the Old Stoics. A fitting way to call it an honourable draw!
Men’s Hockey
Stowe 3 – Old Stoics 2
A tightly contested match with end‑to‑end play kept spectators fully engaged. Stowe edged ahead with a hard‑fought 3–2 victory.
Women’s Hockey
Stowe 1 – Old Stoics 2
In a spirited and highly competitive game, the Old Stoics emerged victorious. A few generously loaned Stoic players added strength to the OS side—making it a truly team‑Stowe effort on the day.
Lacrosse
Stowe 13 – Old Stoics 9
A lively crowd gathered for the afternoon Lacrosse, which was played with tremendous energy and good humour. Stowe secured a well‑deserved 13–9 win after a fast‑paced and entertaining match.
Cross Country
Despite slightly lower numbers this year, the race retained its usual determination and enthusiasm. Congratulations to team Stowe for taking the win.
Fives
OS Fives Captain, Mike Skjott, shared his reflections:
“We had a great day of Fives with players aged from 17 to 77. I am very grateful to the four Stoics who made the effort to come out and mix it up with the Old Boys. I know that the Old Boys had an excellent day! Our next fixture is scheduled for Speech Day on 23 May at 10:30.”
Thank You
A huge well‑done to everyone who took part, supported, or helped make the day possible. The OS Sports Festival continues to be a cherished highlight of the Stowe calendar—uniting generations of Stoics in the shared joy of sport, camaraderie, and community.
We look forward to seeing you again next year!
